Session 1 Results, Watercolors for Veterans & Family, Mayville, NY

Today 4 painters joined me at the Mayville, NY VFW for an afternoon of watercolor instruction. First we discussed "resist", then we did a color chart of beautiful paints to see all our options for color, then proceeded to complete a sailboat painting.  Here are the 4 beautiful paintings produced at our first class.  Click on the image to see a large version.  I think everyone did an outstanding job!

Flickr is a free online service where you can
1) Share your artwork with the world!
    -Learn about "tags" that identify your work so that others find it
    -Learn about "groups" where you interact with other artists (networking)
2) Keep a chronological history of your artwork
    -Record each painting when you finish it, along with its size, medium, etc.)
3) Edit your photos so that they display as close to the original artwork as possible
4) Organize your artwork into sets of your choice: mediums, styles, composition types (landscapes, figures, etc.)
5) Interact with artists and art lovers all over the world--art without boundaries!
6) Be inspired by other artists.  Interact with them if you wish, or just view their work.

Artists such as Derain, Van Gogh, Vlaminck, Bonnard unleashed color and pattern in unprecedented ways.  Their work is loose, gestural and inspires us all.  This class not only gives us a chance to investigate some of the most colorful and exciting paintings ever created, it gives us a chance to hold onto their brush and try our hand at painting their styles.  Practicing their ideas and investigating their techniques may well unleash some surprising spontaneity as you approach your own future paintings!  

Class includes observing famous artists' work, discussion and demo of techniques,  fast paced exercises.  Homework and critiques are offered and encouraged.
